In most heated situations, when you know you can win the argument because you have every facts and points down to the bone…..you know their counter arguments and you know how to counter those counter arguments. You know how to work the crowd. Get them to view what you view. Jab a word here and there to tick the other side off. Or say a few things to make the other side look bad.
You know the other party is wrong and you have every reason to drop the hammer on them…and you want to give it to them because they deserve it (they are after all, WRONG).
In those situation, when emotions are bubbling all over and rockets are ready to go off….
…it is much harder to settle for peace. Much harder to open the hand to embrace than clutching a fist ready for battle.
In those situations, the one who ask for peace and reconciliation…always…ALWAYS ‘look’ and often feel like he/she is in a inferior position.
Yet, how I think when Jesus died on the cross….He can send armies of angels to protect Him. He is GOD!. Though a God, did not consider Himself equal to God. Become a man and choose to die on the cross. For this, the Father exalted Him….
Jesus must have look so weak on the cross. Funny thing about humility. We all teach humility. But to live it. It is dying to one’s ego, pride everyday. And that cost way more than just money and things. Sooner or later..it will cost that person’s own life.
If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
