Ironman Lake Placid Report – Part 1: Pre-race The week leading up to the race I was busy. Afterall this is a BIG race and I want to make sure I have everything ready. I am pretty much packing all my tri and backup gears. Here is my to-do list: i) Get insurance (blue cross) [mon] ()ii) Approve days off (July 23) ()iii) Let everyone (fellowship) i won’t be here on July 22nd [Wed] ()iv)...

Sitting around I am feeling much better. I can get out of the chair and walking the stairs without much pain :o). To summarize Lake Placid: I have never felt closer to God and figure who I am than on race day. Here are two pics from TriEric. This is taken in the first lap of the run. Thanks for him being there and encourage me. I love the pics b/c I am running strong. I don’t even know...

Ironman weekend I just want to say thanks for all your support and encouragement. This weekend has been a blur. I have pieces of what happen. I can say there is a number of times when I think about you guys. I just got home about an hour ago. There is a number of time I got really emotional. The course simply takes a lot out of me. Like: i) From the beginning of the run, someone cheered...

The post before Ironman USA Added: If you are at Lake Placid this Sun, look for me. I will be in an orange jersey, blue bike and black helmet. My number is 280. It’s time to smile and kick butt!! Yesterday, I picked up my bike yesterday from my local bike store. They fixed my gears problem. I rode for 40 min. Switching all the gears and none skipped. Perfect. I was planning to swim but some...

Tapering Tapering is the period of reduced training leading into a competition thatallows you to “freshen up” and be in a position to produce your bestperformance. The main idea behind a taper is to “back off” the volume oftraining to reduce the fatigue and allow full recovery while still doing enoughtraining to maintain the fitness components necessary for competitionperformance. (took this from...

Locked, cocked and ready to rock. Keep this brief. Yesterday I did a 2 hr bike ride and ran outside for 20 min. It was the first time I ran outside since I tore my shoulder. It is amazing what a taper can do for you. I was running in HR 165+ without breathing hard. That is my zone 3-4. Of course, if I run at this heart rate in Ironman, I am going to blow up. My legs felt strong and I felt great...

Taper, numbers and other stuff… i) Tapering is getting to me more than I thought. Last night at prayer meeting, I was not in a good mood. ii) This morning I did a 20 min run on the treadmill before heading off to work (we had a 7:00 am breakfast quarterly meeting). It felt weird. My lower back was aching a bit. I figured that is from the taper too. Note: Shelley posted that when we taper we...

Pics… Hey guys, thanks a lot for the encouragement. Shelley gave me the contact of the lady who swim one armed. If it is possible, I will do it :). No way did i spent $480 US for a race to sit by the sideline. Darren will kick my butt if I do…(not like he hasn’t done so when we ride :D) I spent an hour on the trainer watching Tour De France. Oh man did it feel good to ride again...

Relaxo to the Maxo The title was taken from a sign at my friend’s cottage. I was there for the weekend. I eat a lot and slept a lot. Boy did I sleep a lot. I would get up, eat breakfast, sleep, eat lunch, sleep…. hmm…definitely relaxo to the maxo The cottage was a good getaway. It was relaxing to sit by the dock and dip my feet in the water. My friends played frisbee in the...

Stress week In Canada, it is a short week here. Mon was a holiday for Canada’s Day. However, it did not feel like it was a short week. I was under a lot of pressure. i) The specialist I see for my shoulder is 45 min drive away. I saw him on Tues and yesterday after work. ii) Fellowship – I am stepping down from the role and spent the week preparing the necessary admin work for...
