Encouragement..training..and King Kong

I am surprised with so much respond about the Cancer shirts. Thanks a lot. I will be thinking about this (especially when I train). I want to get a few memorable quotes in. “Cancer sucks” is definitely one of them.

This morning woke up late and went to the pool late. There were too many people in the pool already by the time I got there. They are starting classes to teach kids how to swim and we were forced to all swim in one lane. 25 m length, one lane and seven people swimming….I left after spending an hour there. I couldn’t focus on my drils. This was my fault. I should have wake up earlier (7:30 when they were open).

Went back home and spent 2 hr and 10 min on the bike. I popped in Band of Brothers episode 7 and 8. They were so good. My routine is as follow:

– for the first hour, every 10 min I take a sip of Gatorade (about 125 ml)
– the second hour, I switch to water
– I kept my HR at below 150
– for every 10 min I rotate. Either I switch to one gear over to increase resistance at the same time remain 90 rpm OR I go down on the drop. I will get back up or return to an easier gear if my HR is creeping to 150.

By 1 hr 30 min, I really want to quit. Mentally I was exhausted. Overall, it was a good ride. My bike legs are coming back. There are times when I am peddaling at 130 HR with 90 RPM. A big improvement than a month ago when I started riding.

I spent the afternoon watching King Kong. It was alright. I felt sad for Kong. They plucked him out of his surrounding and dumped him into the city. Me and some friends were discussing that the morale of the story is not fall for girls :). If Kong wasn’t in love with Naomi Watts, they couldn’t have trapped him.

Ok..here is some spoiler (so stop if u want to watch it). I was cracking out most of the time. Especially the dinosaur scene. It felt all of sudden like they were in Jurrasic Park. Then there were the bugs scene…hmm Lord of the Rings anyone?? This movie had everything. There were a few scenes that I thought they exaggerated. Especially the one where the dionsaurs were running in this narrow ditch and the humans were running under them? Please…right…

Going to do some yoga and head to bed. Tomorrow will be another training day. After church, hit the pool. I don’t know if I have improved or not. Right now I am focusing on breathing on my left side and keeping my head down so my hips won’t drop. I felt I ain’t kicking as hard and still keeping afloat. I am trying to get to two kicks with every stroke.

Dusting off this blog

I have been blogging since 2005. That’s almost 20 years! Though not very consistent. What started with a triathlon blog turned into a Christian blog. And I stopped blogging in 2011 after I came to Singapore. These days, I’ve shared most of my thoughts on social media (Facebook, Instagram and

Fruit for thought: The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill

I recently finished listening to the whole series of podcasts on The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill. It has been a sobering podcast to listen to. I highly recommend for those who are in seminary or going to ministry full-time to listen to. It is a good reminder that

Five Books Recommended for Christian Parents

Here are a few books I highly recommend for Christian parents. I read them for my M Div thesis. My thesis was persuading how parents should discipling their children, not the church. Book #1 – The Disciple-making Parent by Chap Bettis I never thought my role as a father was
