How to put God first in relationships, over physical and emotional desires?

I am committed to follow Christ regardless of my circumstances.  Yes, there are physical and emotional desires or attractions .But I serve the Lord first above all. I told God I rather stay single than to sin.  It is a matter of how much we are willing to commit.  I noticed that when I say I am willing to commit, I am able to commit more and able to resist temptations.  This is exactly what James said in James 4:7:

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
